About Cerys

Cerys Williams is a young jewellery designer maker, based in Fife, who creates beautiful handmade jewellery from home. She creates her pieces by wrapping thin pieces of silver wire to create patterns and 3D forms. Cerys designs her jewellery, taking inspiration from simple geometric shapes and enhances them with sections of wrapped wire. Cerys makes the wire wrapped element is the main focus of many of her designs, which gives them a unique style. Her designs are gentle, delicate, and made for everyday wear. Making jewellery that is practical and comfortable is very important to Cerys.

Growing up, Cerys would visit a family friend every week who taught her lots of practical making skills such as sewing, painting, baking and jewellery. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Cerys experimented with the jewellery making skills she had, to develop her own designs. She specifically enjoys wire wrapping as she enjoys the challenge of working out how to create specific and strong shapes with the wires.

In 2022 Cerys was awarded a Creative Scotland Youth Arts Bursary with Fife Contemporary to help develop her skills as jeweller, provide equipment she needs and help her turn her passion for jewellery into a business. Cerys was chosen for the bursary because she had natural creative talent and has the ambition to start her own business.

"We were so delighted to be able to offer Cerys the Youth Arts Bursary. She had an obvious creative talent and was keen to learn. She has since grabbed this opportunity with both hands and it has been a delight to see her flourish" - Kate Grenyer, Fife Contemporary

The bursary program enhanced her jewellery by giving Cerys access to high quality materials and the opportunity to learn new techniques. Learning to solder gave her lots more freedom with her designs.

The bursary program also allowed Cerys to meet other jewellers and attend events such as Dazzle and Elements in Edinburgh. The contacts she’s made will help her continue to develop as a jeweller.
